Families can really enjoy being out in the woods together, away from the stresses and strains of modern living.  Family Courses run by Woodland Learning give families a fun time whilst giving them ideas for activities they could do on their own in their local woods.  Popular themes for the courses are fairy and elf hunts, cooking outdoors, den building, environmental sculpture, story-telling and treasure trails.  Most Family Courses are run through other agencies such as the Thatcham Nature Discovery Centre (Woodland Explorer Days), Northview School (Highworth Conservation Club) and Swindon Council Learning and Education Team.  Details of these can be found on the Events Page.

There are also two family learning events a year for those who have attended courses or regularly work with Woodland Learning.  They are to enable people to network and share skills.  In 2009 they are:

Wednesday 8th April 10am to 4pm. Shelter Building and cooking lunch.  Cuckoo Pen Wood, Coleshill.  Help to harvest materials and construct a shelter for school groups to use.  Baked potatoes and veggy stew provided for lunch.  Please bring anything else you may like.

Friday 23rd October 10am to 3pm.  Stanton Park, Near Swindon.  Practice fire lighting and cooking.  Help to make a clay oven.  Sausages and dampers provided to cook on your family fire.  Please bring anything else you may like.

Woodland Learning Forest Skills 5Each family must have at least 1 adult for 4 children and the children must all be from the same family. The events are not suitable for children under 5. No dogs. Parents are responsible for the safety of their own children although guidance will be given by the tutors.

The only weather Family Events will not take place in is high winds. I will notify you as soon as possible if the course is cancelled due to this and a different date will be arranged.
