This course is an opportunity to explore to a higher level, different approach to using the outdoor environment in a Forest School setting and is for those who and wish to coordinate, manage and lead Forest School Sessions with children, young people or adults.

You will investigate how best to design and run a Forest School programme and look at how to approach and apply it safely and effectively.

This Level 3 course is aimed at individuals who have a minimum Level 2 qualification in Youth Work, Child Care, Teaching OR relevant experience in working with children,

£900 per person inc. Training, First Aid and Assessment. This needs to be paid in full before the start of the course. Please request an invoice if you need one.

Taught Units

Unit 1: Forest School Practical Skills and Woodland Management.
Unit 2: Learning and Development at Forest School.
Unit 3: Establishing and Delivery of a Forest School Programme.

Before actively running programmes you will be required to hold:

A Forest School Practitioner will enable children to:

Explore magical, stimulating, mysterious, relaxing, exciting, amazing, interesting, educational, safe & fun environments.

Experience achievement, complete challenging tasks, develop relationships and act as positive role models, provide supported learning, problem solving, working in teams or independently, developing self-awareness, self-esteem and building confidence.

* For the Level 3 Forest Schools Practitioners Award you must complete the 2 days of first aid training included in your course. If you already hold an appropriate outdoor first aid certificate you may be exempt from attending these two days. We are unable to offer any reduction in the course price if you choose not to attend the first aid element.

This HSE approved ITC (Immediate Temporary Care) 16 hour outdoor first Aid certificate is a part of the course for the Level 3 Forest Schools Practitioner Award, is recommended by all outdoor National Governing Body Awards and will equip you with the knowledge and skills to deal with real situations should they arise. This qualification is based on accelerated learning techniques and is scenario based, so bring warm outdoor clothes and boots! The second day builds on the Emergency Action content, covering the needs of the outdoor national governing bodies (such as the MLTE, BCU, BOF, RYA, NCA etc) for their instructor awards.

Assessment Week

Woodland Learning Assessment weeks are for Woodland Learning level 3 students only.  Please book by sending an e-mail to ruthparsons@woodland-learning.co.uk . Please note a  £50 booking fee applies if a cancellation is made 14 days or less before the course.  Please come to an assessment week within 9 months of your initial training week.  Portfolios, Handbooks, 6 practice sessions and 3 observation sessions should be nearly complete before attending an assessment week.

Forest Schools level 1 training

Stanton Park, Swindon. 23rd, 24th, 25th January 2012 9am – 5pm.

This is aimed at individuals with little or no experience of working in the outdoors, and aims to build knowledge and confidence in the safe use of equipment and tools. Woodland Learning staff will introduce basic woodland skills, and individuals will be required to demonstrate a basic knowledge of the flora and fauna in a woodland area. The course will allow participants to look at using the outdoor environment as a tool to facilitate different learning styles and to develop personal skills such as confidence and self-esteem.

Course Duration: 3 days

Portfolio Completion will take place during the course and be handed in on the last day

Course Cost: £275. This needs to be paid in full before the start of the course. Please request an invoice if you need one. Everyone will receive a receipt. A £50.00 re booking fee will apply for any courses cancelled within 14 days of course start date.
