FOREST SCHOOLS TRAINING

Forest Schools level 3 practitioners award.

Great Bedwyn School, Wiltshire. Thursdays 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd and 29th September. 9am to 5pm.

This course is an opportunity to explore to a higher level, different approach to using the outdoor environment in a Forest School setting and is for those who and wish to coordinate, manage and lead Forest School Sessions with children, young people or adults.

You will investigate how best to design and run a Forest School programme and look at how to approach and apply it safely and effectively.

This Level 3 course is aimed at individuals who have a minimum Level 2 qualification in Youth Work, Child Care, Teaching OR relevant experience in working with children,

Course Costs

£885 per person inc. Training, First Aid and Assessment. This needs to be paid in full before the start of the course. Please request an invoice if you need one. Everyone will receive a receipt.

Taught Units

Unit 1: Forest School Practical Skills and Woodland Management.
Unit 2: Learning and Development at Forest School .
Unit 3: Establishing and Delivery of a Forest School Programme.

Before actively running programmes you will be required to hold:

First Aid Qualification
Clean CRB reference

A Forest School Practitioner will enable children to:

Explore magical, stimulating, mysterious, relaxing, exciting, amazing, interesting, educational, safe & fun environments.

Experience achievement, complete challenging tasks, develop relationships and act as positive role models, provide supported learning, problem solving, working in teams or independently, developing self-awareness, self-esteem and building confidence.

* For the Level 3 Forest Schools Practitioners Award you must complete the 2 days of first aid training included in your course. If you already hold an appropriate outdoor first aid certificate you may be exempt from attending these two days. We are unable to offer any reduction in the course price if you choose not to attend the first aid element.

Forest Schools level 1 training

This is aimed at individuals with little or no experience of working in the outdoors, and aims to build knowledge and confidence in the safe use of equipment and tools. Woodland Learning staff will introduce basic woodland skills, and individuals will be required to demonstrate a basic knowledge of the flora and fauna in a woodland area. The course will allow participants to look at using the outdoor environment as a tool to facilitate different learning styles and to develop personal skills such as confidence and self-esteem.

Course Duration: 3 days

Portfolio Completion will take place during the course and be handed in on the last day

Course Cost: £250 per. This needs to be paid in full before the start of the course. Please request an invoice if you need one. Everyone will receive a receipt. A £50.00 re booking fee will apply for any courses cancelled within 14 days of course start date.

Professional Development Courses for Forest School Leaders and those in training. Stanton Park.

Thursday 24th June.  3.45pm to 5.45pm Woodland wildlife.  Encouraging discovery and amazement.  Understanding sustainable woodland management.  Recognising species.

Tuesday 13th July.  3.45pm to 5.45pm. Fires and cooking.  Review safe practice.  Using different methods to light a fire. Cooking healthy food (and some treats!). Stay for tea!  Please bring £2 donation towards food.

Stanton Park, in the woodland on the left of the access road.  Meet in the car park at 3.45pm.  Course finishes at 5.45pm.  £10 per person per workshop.  Tea, coffee and biscuits provided.  Please wear suitable clothing and footwear. 

These two hour workshops give participants the chance to practice their skills, share ideas and experience and get advice and support from a Forest school trainer.  Everyone who is interested is very welcome. The courses are suitable for teaching staff from nurseries, primary schools, secondary and special schools; youth leaders, child minders, parents, rangers and many more.   Certificates of attendance can be given to all those who need them.  Please book your place.

Living Willow Sculpture Course

Learn to make living sculptures and shelters. Help make a willow storytelling dome at Stanton Park, practice making your own designs and take the willow home to make them. Outdoor course, please dress appropriately. Cost £40.00 including materials to take home. Please bring a packed lunch.

These days are for young people to come and enjoy the great outdoors during the school holidays.  The days run from 10am to 4pm.  They cost £25 a day.  Every day has a different theme but all days include fire lighting and den building, everyone’s favourites!
